Fresh Off The Easel: Moran Point I'm excited to share my newest painting, inspired from my favorite lookout spot at the Grand Canyon called Moran Point.
If you've ever been to the Grand Canyon, you know that there are tons of lookouts and vista points to stand at and witness the beauty of the canyon.
But what makes this spot my favorite, is that there is a little area near the lookout, where you can walk away from the crowd and the parking lot, and into the plants and trees to find a nice spot on a rock to relax.
It's the perfect spot to paint and watch the sunset. Sometimes I would see someone playing guitar, singing, or meditating. Or, if you're like me, wandering around photographing every little nook and cranny possible!
I chose this composition, because I was drawn to the strong rainbow gradient seen from the red orange of the grass in the lower left, to the more golden grasses above, to the green and blue greens of the bushes, to the cool blues and purples of the canyon in the background. This gradient excited me so much that I had to paint it!
Even though it's a pretty mundane shot of some plants, rather than an epic vista view, it's those colors that grabbed me. Can you see the rainbow?

PS: I experienced many awesome breakthroughs with this painting, and my experience with the palette knife. So much so, that I want to write a separate email to you just about my process behind this painting!
